DANDENONG LNG GAS STORAGE FACILITY OPERATIONS, VIC

APA’s Dandenong LNG Gas Storage Facility provides gas buyers, including gas retailers, flexibility in the East Australian gas market, by providing options to manage gas supply and demand during production outages or emergencies and peak demand periods.

Strategically located on the Melbourne Inner Ring Main, the facility is ideally situated to enable the rapid vaporisation of LNG and subsequent injection of natural gas into the pipeline system.

Natural gas is taken from the Longford Dandenong Pipeline, cleaned to remove moisture and carbon dioxide, and then cooled to -163 degrees. At this temperature it becomes a liquid which is then stored in the very large onsite above-ground LNG tank. The tank can hold 680 terajoules of LNG (12,400 tonnes) and can be topped up at a rate of up to 8.2 TJ/day. To supply gas into the East Coast gas market, the LNG is warmed to be turned back into natural gas. The combined injection capacity of the plant is 237 TJ/. This is equivalent to the average daily gas consumption of 1.5 million households. The plant can be injecting into the market at full capacity within an hour of start-up. APA also sells LNG for remote applications and heavy road transport as an alternative to diesel and LPG. The facility has an LNG tanker loading capacity of around 100 tonnes of LNG per day. The facility’s onsite control centre is manned 24 hours per day. PNP has provided APA with various personnel to undertake works and both operate the facility over the years.

ABBOTTS ROAD AUGMENTATION PIPELINE, DANDENONG, VIC

Abbott's Road

ABBOTT'S ROAD PROJECT

PNP provided APA Group with welding supervision services during the construction and tie-in of a 3.8 km, 450NB, Class 600 natural gas pipeline that increases the capacity of the existing Dandenong to Crib Point Pipeline system. The pipeline runs from a hot tap off take on the existing 300NB pipeline and reconnects via a hot tap to the existing 300NB pipeline. This section was the first stage of a general augmentation of the Dandenong to Crib Point Pipeline to increase capacity in the pipeline system servicing the Mornington Peninsula region, to deal with increased winter demand.

SOUTH WEST LODDON PIPELINE PROJECT

South West Loddon Pipeline Project.

SOUTH WEST LODDON PIPELINE PROJECT

The $80M South West Loddon Pipeline Project is a joint initiative between GWMWater, Loddon Shire, Coliban Water, Goulburn-Murray Water, and the Victorian and Federal Governments. The project includes 1300km of water pipeline trunk & distribution network, along with 13 pumping stations, tanks and channel offtakes.

The new pipeline system extends the existing Wimmera-Mallee stock and domestic pipeline east of St Arnaud, across to Wedderburn, Inglewood and Bridgewater on Loddon north west of Bendigo, providing a more secure rural water supply to sustain a viable regional economy. The project will service 260 rural farming enterprises and 370 lifestyle properties over an area of 2900km² with a reticulated water supply.  PNP was engaged by GWMWater to undertake inspection services during construction, between February and December 2018.

The field inspector role supervised contractor activities in the field, particularly regarding quality, safety and environmental performance. Pipelines were generally DN60 – DN125 PE ploughed-in and DN150 – DN 375 PVC installed by trenching.

TAYLOR LAKES PROJECT

Subsequent to our involvement on the Wimmera Malle Pipeline Project, PNP provided GWMWater with inspection services on their Taylors Lake Project.

Taylors Lake is an off-stream reservoir and a reliable water source for the region. The Lake has an important role in supplying environmental water to the Wimmera River. It’s also very popular with Horsham locals for recreation, especially fishing and water skiing. When other lakes are dry, Taylors Lake will often still have water to enjoy.

$500M WIMMERA MALLEE PIPLINE PROJECT

Wimmera Mallee irrigation area pipeline network. The Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Project was one of the largest water infrastructure projects in Australia, replacing 17,500 km of inefficient open channels with 9,159 km of rural pipeline. Construction commenced in November 2006 with the last pipe being laid in April 2010, well ahead of the 10 year timeframe originally proposed and within the $688M project budget. The pipeline saves on average 103 GL/yr of water and provides a continuous water supply to approximately 7,000 rural customers and 36 towns across the Wimmera and Mallee. PNP assisted GWMWater from the start of the tender period for Stage 1, commencing with the preparation of a recruitment plan for project.  PNP then provided inspection services on behalf of GWMWater, once construction commenced on Stage 1 in October 2006.  Followed by a Senior Cost Controller and a Contracts Administrator, to review the contractor’s work.  Additional cost, contracts and inspection personnel were provided as new supply systems began construction. This included validating subcontractor progress claims, monitoring progress, providing input to monthly reports, coordinating and discussing related matters with construction/project managers, and reviewing claims and variations.

FLEXITY E-CLASS TRAMS INTRODUCTION AND ROLLOUT, VIC

The E-class trams are three-section, four-bogie articulated trams that were first introduced to the Melbourne tram network in 2013. They are built at Bombardier’s Dandenong factory, with the propulsion systems and bogies coming from Bombardier factories in Germany.  The first tram was delivered to the Preston workshop in June 2013 and after testing entered service on route 96 in November 2013. As of January 2019, 72 (50 E1s and 22 E2s) are in service, of a total of 90 ordered by the State.
